Carter, Milchman & Frank Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary

Long Island City, NY, February 9, 2024 — Today marks a yearlong celebration for Carter, Milchman & Frank Inc. (CMF),commemorating a remarkable 100 year journey, reflecting on how far the company has come and looking ahead to the future.

Throughout its history, CMF has proudly contributed to the construction landscape of New York City, leaving an indelible mark on iconic structures, such as the Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Triboro Bridge, and LaGuardia Airport.

With 36 years of certification as a Women Owned Business (WBE), and recent accreditation as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise(DBE), CMF continues to demonstrate its commitment to diversity and excellence in the industry.

Leslie Baltes, CMF president since 2017, expressed her pride in the company’s achievements, “This is such a historic year for CMF and the CMF family. We are so proud of the work we do here and to be a part of important projects all over the Tri-State area. There have been challenges as a small local business, but we love what we do and we are still going strong.”

CMF has a deep family legacy. Herman Milchman, Leslie Baltes’ grandfather, first opened the business with his partners in SoHo in 1924. Although there were originally three founders, the business eventually came to be owned solely by the Milchman family. Herman then moved the company to Long Island City in 1956. Leslie’s parents took over in the 1980s. Her father, Neil Rechtweg, is well known by all to be an expert in his field and has been with the company for over 40+ years. Neil’s son and CMF Vice President, David Rechtweg, has played a vital role in shaping CMF’s trajectory since joining in1997. Today, CMF boasts a robust infrastructure, including a primary warehouse catering to walk-in customers, two satellite warehouses, a fleet of trucks, and a diverse staff of 45 people. CMF has grown to serve over 1,000 customers, providing excellent service and meeting each unique need.

“As we embark on this milestone year, we can’t wait to see what opportunities lie ahead,” remarked President Leslie Baltes. “I hope we can continue to grow our business and make significant contributions to the dynamic landscape of New York City.”
